Description
Grains, beans, stews, even steamed bread and vegetables taste better than ever when you cook them in an Ohsawa Pot. This covered stoneware casserole, designed to be used in a pressure cooker or stock pot, cooks food evenly without scorching. Brown rice cooks up fluffier, sweeter and more digestible, yet still slightly chewy.
Make Perfect Brown Rice and More with the Ohsawa Pot
High-fired and lead-free, each pot is individually hand thrown and carefully detailed by the artist. Built-in legs so no rack is necessary in the cook pot.
Non-reactive with Food
The allure of cooking in earthenware is likely to be based on our intuitive understanding of what's good for us. The superior taste of foods cooked in non-metallic earthenware is not imaginary. The ceramic material of the Ohsawa Pot is non-reactive with food. Unlike metal, it is chemically stable, allowing the food cooked therein to remain pristine and retain its natural flavor. Metal cookware is reactive: it releases metallic ions into the food, contaminating and diminishing its natural taste, aroma and color.
Biocompatible, Far-Infrared Radiant Heat
Traditional rice cooking methods utilize heavy, thick-walled pots that transfer heat slowly and evenly. Herein lies the secret to cooking really delicious rice. Modern, thin-walled pots are designed to transfer heat quickly and efficiently, but they lack the deep, radiant, even-tempered heat of earthenware. The Ohsawa Pot produces a radiant, penetrating heat that contains a high proportion of far-infrared heat waves. This is the same kind of heat that comes from the sun, warming the earth even on overcast days. When these rays penetrate food, it has a wonderful effect: it transforms ordinary foods into the most delicious you have ever tasted.
User-friendly with a rope handle for easily moving from cook pot to table.
